Physiotherapy aut entry requirements

The Otago Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhty) degree is a prestigious four-year programme positioned at the cutting edge of physiotherapy education. It is internationally renowned for excellence, because the graduates it prepares for the profession are among the best in the field.


The academic year is from late February to November. In the first year students take the Health Sciences First Year courseand in the majority of cases students are selected from this year. Students who complete all the competencies of the four years of study are then eligible to apply for registration as a physiotherapist with the New Zealand Physiotherapy Board.


Clinical education teaching facilities for undergraduate Physiotherapy programmes are provided in the Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington Clinical Centres and associated Clinical Hubs.

After completion of the third year, the class will be divided and students allocated to one of the Clinical Centres or Clinical Hubs for the remainder of their programme. However, if the number of applicants for entry to any Clinical Centre or Clinical Hub exceeds the number of places available, a ballot may be held to determine which students will be required to take a place in one of the other Centres or Hubs. Honours students will normally be allocated to the Dunedin Centre.


However, such students may be assigned to another Centre, or required to complete a component of their fina. Hold a valid driver’s licence. Applicants with English as a second or other language who have not completed at least three years of secondary schooling in NZ will be required to meet IELTS requirements.


Candidates who have studied on a Physiotherapy Degree programme at another institution will need to meet the Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme entry requirements or equivalent. Applicants who have completed an approved foundation, bridging or tertiary introductory programme in Health at Level with or higher in all modules will be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme. This three-year, full time, integrated program will provide you with the knowledge, skills and clinical practice experience required to work as a physiotherapist, with a particular focus on the development of leadership. IELTS a minimum of 7in each band is required. Students are required to provide proof of immunisation against certain diseases, including hepatitis B before the commencement of study. A Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR) and a Blue Card are also required before the commencement of clinical practice.


Extended Project Qualification: Applicants with grade A in the EPQ will typically receive an offer one grade lower than the standard A level offer. Please note that any subject specific requirements must still be met.
