Greek island hopping routes

Is there island hopping in Greece? Let’s now go to Amorgos, another island of the Cyclades archipelago. From Santorini, you have to. If you visit Rhodes make sure you hop.

The period between January and March is best for those looking for cheap flight tickets.

Choose the Entry Point With Care. Your decision on your entry point should be so chosen, that the islands you wish to. The most common routes besides Athens , Santorini , and Mykonos are definitely within the Cyclades, but I encourage you to also branch out and include other lesser known islands if you have the time!

Your route is only bound by the ferry schedule. Most visitors head straight to Chania regardless of which airport they fly into, but Heraklion is a fantastic city to stay in too. Main island hopping area in Greece is Aegean sea and secondly the Ionian Sea. Greek Island itineraries are endless.

In Aegean, there are main areas that we will focus on!

Saronic Gulf islands 2. Sporades island Athens has different ports. Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio. Here is a timetable for the coaches from Athens to Rafina port. See full list on secret-greece.

Aigina and Agkistri are the closest. Spetses is bigger and quite lively. Poros is a little bit different with more options and you can get there by car through Peloponnese and pass there by small boats! Here you can find the iconic white houses with blue coloured windows with some exceptions.

You have more combinations to choose from. We will recommend but then you can create your own routes ! I like this route as it begins from one famous and busy island and goes through some more hidden islands in Aegean. Kos is one of the most touristic islands in Greece with big resorts and sandy beaches.

You can spend a couple of days there and then you can visit Kalymnos, which is one of the best destinations in Europe for climbing! Except climbing, there are routes for hiking and some great one day trips to close small islands! Next stop can be Leros is one of the most underrated islands.

Rhodes is very famous, with amazing history and beaches! But I want to focus on the other smaller islands, like Symi. This picturesque island will provide you with remote beaches, great food and special moments. Nysiros is another island (the other is Santorini) quite wild and it has an active volcano (but not erupting).

And Tilos is one of the small islands that you just become one with the locals and it has kept its traditional character. Skopelos was featured in the Hollywood movie Mama Mia and Alonissos has an incredible Marine Park! Need to know: Island hopping in the Ionians is not common. The presence of sandy beaches and airports means package tourism, with lots of purpose-built resorts.

Instea you must go via Igoumenitsa on the mainland. Overlooked by its iconic windmills, you’ll rub shoulders with the famous as you explore the flower-filled lanes and boutique shops and cafes. With most travelers only having limited time in the islands we created multiple itineraries that we thought would be great for one week vacations. Maybe it will suit you!

Ferry firms must get licence to operate a main ferry route and that means providing a service all year roun even to the less popular islands. You can find yourself in a totally different landscape and on an island with a completely different vibe in the blink of an eye. All our packages can be.

These two-week itineraries include a shortlist of the Classical sites, island - hopping in the Cyclades (the ultimate summer experience), a Cretan odyssey an for Greece aficionados.
